Why "no more or less" but electricity cost still increases

07/09/2020

When looking at the bill, many people still wonder why the daily habit of using electrical appliances is almost unchanged but the expense at the end of the month increased significantly. It sounds ridiculous, but the occurrence of these situations is very normal. In this article, Tran Phu will define the reason for this issue.

Whether or not errors from electric staff and measuring equipment?

As to electric meters, this device has been designed and tested to operate stably for long-term environmental conditions, including under high summer temperatures, to give accurate results with significant error. Therefore, assuming that the electricity meter rotate differently at different speeds in each month is impossible

Electricity workers are subject to direct discipline if errors occur when recording numbers

Regarding the checking of the electric meter readings, the checking time will normally be fixed on one day of the month and only be recorded from one to two days earlỉe or later in irresistible cases. However, even in those cases, for households with monthly electricity used above 400kWh which is up to grade 6 of the retail prices of domestic electricity, recording later will not affect the high price of electricity.  Meanwhile, for those daily using over 200kWh which is up to grade 4, or over 300 kWh at grade 5 of the retail prices, a one or two-day late checking of the index will only cause the electricity index to fluctuate around 20 - 30kWh that the difference pay at high prices can not exceed VND 20,000.

As to electrical workers, the mistake in work will affect their bonuses, safety, monthly rating, and even make them pay to compensate customers for high prices. Therefore, the mistake when checking the index is the case that no one wants.

Families can check the electricity index by recording the meter and real numbers used monthly and compare them with the meter bills themselves. If you are placing the electrical meter too high or do not know how to read the electronic meter index, the family can install an additional mechanical meter indoors behind the main meter, then compare the index on the secondary meter with the on-bill index. When the difference is insignificant, you can be assured during usage.

Is there another reason for the increase in electricity bills that you haven't thought of?

The consumption of electrical cooling devices varies in different weather. The same device with the same capacity, during the summer, can consume more power despite the same usage time due to the increase of temperature deviation.

Old equipment degraded: Electrical equipment, as well as long-term used wiring, may become ageing and lead to short-circuiting caused by the leakage current. However, the leakage is not enough to the point of the automatic circuit breaker to shut, except for cases of leakage protection devices such as ELCB, RCCB, etc. The appearance of leakage current will also lead to a lot of power consumption even if the equipment in the house is not working. Families can check this by turning off all electrical appliances in the house and then take a look at whether the meter is "rotating".

Electronic meters work more accurately: Electronic meters operate more promptly than mechanical meters, therefore, some households, after changing from a mechanical meter to an electronic meter, will receive a little higher of the electricity bill. Households can install mechanical meters to track and compare differences with the main electronic meters. If there is any unusual, report the electricity to retest and may request to appoint an independent verifying unit to check again.

In addition, everyone should remember the slogan "Turn off when not in use" and should disconnect the power supply to the device. The power cord plugged into an outlet can consume up to 96W per day even when not connected to a laptop, or the air conditioner can cost 360W if only turned off by the controller.

Hopefully, the above answers partly help consumers identify and have solutions to limit the consumption and waste of electricity. Not only saving money, using reasonable electricity is the way for us to protect the environment.
